How much does business photography cost in Vancouver?
Real 2026 rates, why two quotes for the same shoot can be $400 apart, and the rights question that matters more than the price.
The short answer: in Vancouver, business photography commonly runs $150 to $400 an hour, with most established professionals around $250 to $300 and a two hour minimum. Add editing and usage rights and a typical small business shoot lands between $300 and $1,200. Our Pro bundle is $699 one time, for the website and the photoshoot together, and the photos are yours.
What photographers charge here
Freelance rates in Vancouver start around $30 to $52 an hour for juniors and $52 to $89 for mid level photographers, with the median near $69. Event and small commercial work runs $150 to $400 an hour, and the established mid tier clusters at $250 to $300. Full commercial work, where the photos will carry ads or campaigns, runs $200 to $1,000 an hour or more, because you are buying rights, not just time. Most professionals also set a two hour minimum, which is fair: travel, setup and editing exist whether the shoot is long or short.
Why quotes vary so much
Three things hide behind the hourly number. Experience, which you can see in the portfolio. Editing, which you cannot: every hour of shooting drags one to three hours of selection and retouching behind it, and the quote has to carry that. And usage rights, which is where cheap quotes stop being cheap.
The usage rights trap
Since November 2012, Canadian copyright law makes the photographer the first owner of the photos by default, even when you commissioned and paid for them. What you get, unless the agreement says more, is personal, non commercial use. A $500 shoot where you cannot legally run the photos as ads is not a $500 shoot. Before you book anyone, ask one question in writing: “Do I get commercial rights to these photos?” We wrote more about this in who owns your website.
What about stock photos?
Stock is free, and customers can tell. It cannot show your room, your work, or the person who will actually cut their hair or fix their sink. The measurable version: business profiles with real photos get about 42 percent more direction requests and 35 percent more website clicks than ones without. For a local business, the photos are not decoration. They are the proof.
